The 2024 Francophonie Week of the Alliance Francaise, Ibadan was celebrated in style on Friday as the students showcased different talents and prolific in french language in the presence of their parents, teachers, friends and invited guests.

The Francophonie Week is an annual program is an annual event launched in 1995 by the French Ministry of Culture to celebrate the French language and diverse Francophone cultures through cultural activities held worldwide.

The students from two secondary schools in Ibadan, Valencia college and God's Blessing and two federal universities, University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, challenged themselves on French quiz, songs, dance and drama competitions to make the day a memorable one.

Speaking at the occasion, the chief executive officer of Kayrom Lee Group of Companies, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde, advised parents and guardian to allow their children and wards to learn the french language because of it's many benefits.

"By allowing our children and wards to learn the french language under a conducive environment like Alliance Francaise, this will occupied them and take their minds off social vices that are rampant among our youth today.

"Again by knowing little about another language will be a great benefits not only to our youth but also to us the adults. We may find ourselves in another country where they don't speak English like for example, when I traveled to Saudi Arabia, I wanted to buy food and I saw what I wanted to buy but there was a communication problem.

"The seller doesn't understand English and my Arabic is not that fluent. I just tried to communicate in french and that solved the whole problem," Amb Ayinde said.

Speaking further, Amb Ayinde, who is a member of Alliance Francaise, Ibadan executive council, headed by Mrs Funso Adegbola, on behalf of other members commended the organiser for a job well done.

The program would be rounded off with a novelty match on Saturday at the Obafemi Awolowo stadium, Ibadan between Nigeria Association of French Teachers and Radio French International.
