The new gospel album of the South Africa based group, Worship Kulture is making major waves in mainstream gospel music as their hit song 'Farahan' that truly honors the meaning of its title, which means happiness.
The new album, which is a combination of Afro-pop sounds in gospel music, is an initiative of Christian minister and music producer Chris Sanni to share contemporary African gospel music with the world.Worship Kulture, Johannesburg based group, consists of artists and producers from all over Africa from countries like South Africa, Congo, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Angola.
The album strongly starts off with the song ‘Farahan’. A song that truly honors the meaning of its title, and are immediately brought into an atmosphere of victory while hearing the awesome elements of a mid-tempo Afro-pop beat.
It successfully sets the right expectations for the characteristics of the entire album, simply a high-quality African gospel song for a global audience.
After the first track, the listeners are introduced in the following songs like ‘Your Love’ and ‘Yahweh’ to the soothing voice of leading singer, Emmanuel Ezeh.
The track ‘Your Love’ stays true to the sounds of gospel music with musical elements in the same tradition of gospel legends like Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, and Tye Tribett.
The song ‘Yahweh’ could definitely be seen as a climax on the album. The song is grand, filled with the amazing African gospel vibe, but it stays mainstream enough in its sound. The song is powerful and communicates a clear, holy message.
‘Let Everything That Has Breath’ is a song that showcases in a great way that African gospel groups are perfectly capable of producing the same contemporary sound that we know from worship groups like Hillsong and Elevation Worship. The song is a great and modern-sounding reflection on the greatness of the Lord.
Worship Kulture is without a doubt a group that presents Afro-pop and gospel with a great contemporary sound for today. Therefore, it doesn’t amaze me that its fanbase is from all over the world. This album is a great example of in which direction African gospel groups should go in this new decade and hopefully, we will hear more from Worship Kulture in the future.
