Nigeria's Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi was voted man of the match in Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-0 win against Baroka FC in the Absa Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on Saturday night.
Akpeyi replaced injured Bafana Bafana of South Africa goalie, Itumeleng Khune on 26 minutes and announced his arrival in fine style two minutes later with a point-blank save from Richard Mbulu’s diving header.
The 33-year-old was forced into a couple saves from point blank range, but the former Warri Wolves  shot-stopper weren’t troubled handling situation effectively instead.
The game was his fifth league appearance for the Soweto giants side this season.
Lebogang Manyama’s first half strike was enough to hand Kaizer Chiefs all three points in the game.
Speaking after the game, the former Warri Wolves safehand, who pulled off a number of saves, also paid tribute to goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter.
“Coach Lee always says that you have prepare for every game whether you on the bench or not, you have to prepare for it," Akpeyi told SuperSport TV.
“So I actually prepare for every game. So what was going through on the field, I made up my mind that I’m going to make up my mind and nothing happens.
“That’s the confidence I came into the field with and I also want to say to the players that they deserve an award as well for the winning goal,” Akpeyi said.
The 32-year-old, who have endured a mixed bag of fortunes since arriving at the Glamour Boys, gave thanks to his teammates who encouraged him before replacing Khune.
“I’m a big goalkeeper. Whatever is thrown at me I just have to take it and use it as a stepping stone to get to the next level that’s the confidence I came into the team with.
“So my teammates was actually encouraging me when I was entering the field it’s because they have confidence in me as well. So I think the result works generally well. And thank we have the three points to stay on top."
