NPFL: Eguma Expects Tough Duel Against Sunshine Stars

Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma is expecting a tough game when his side host Sunshine Stars in one of Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixtures at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Eguma whose team lost 1-2 at Katsina United last Sunday said they have put the loss behind and are more focused on the match against Sunshine Stars, a side he describes as wounded lions following their loss at home to Rangers in their last home match.
The coach said the target of the team is to play and maintain a good stead for a place in the playoff for a continental ticket. He hopes that the Sunday’s match will bring out the best in his players as they strive to finish the regular campaign strongly.
The Rivers United tactician however warned his players to see the match as one of the finals as they cannot afford to drop their guard at this point of the season.
“We are meeting Sunshine Stars in our next game and with the way things turned out for them they will come strong against us. They are like wounded lions and we will readily curtail them.
“We need every key point as the league races to the final stretch and since our target is a top finish to push for a continental place through the playoff, we have to take every game as a cup final. I am optimistic that we can achieve it,” Eguma said.
Eguma has led Rivers United to seventh place in Group A of the NPFL standings so far, winning five matches and drawing four from 14 played so far, and will hope to mastermind a sixth win of the campaign for his side.
