GOTV Boxing Night: How Flykite Boss Escaped Lynched In Ibadan

The Chief Executive Officer of Flykite Promotions, Jenkins Alumona was lucky to have escaped unscratched  after he was threaten by boxing fans that thronged the venue of the 18th edition of GOtv Boxing Night held on Sunday at the indoor sports hall of Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan,.
In his quest to maintain orderliness especially at the VIP stand and forestall any act not suitable for a boxing event that is being beamed live by the sponsor Super Sports, the efforts of the Flykite boss was met with stiff resistance by some members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) that almost assaulted him physically.
One of the Ibadan based boxers; Sadiku ‘Dodo’ Akeem who defeated Republic of Benin’s Ekpresso Djamihou, was popular among the members of NURTW in the state, being an aide to the late Chairman of the union in Oyo State, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde Fele that made the ‘Union’ people to come out in large numbers to cheer him and other Ibadan boxers.
What seems to be responsible for the uncontrollable situation during the event was the overcrowded of the venue. The boxing fans that thronged the 500 capacity indoor sports hall was more than 2,000 which gave the organizers a serious difficulty to curtail the enraged fans that are desperate to gain access to watch the bouts after the venue was filled to its maximum capacity.
There was a confrontation between Alumona and Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as ‘Sunday Igboho’ a popular private security personnel to top politicians in the state, as the Flykite boss was trying to maintain regulation in the VIP area, which seemed to have angered the followers of Igboho.
Igboho supporters threatening to ruthlessly deal with Alumona for disrespecting their boss, and it took the intervention of the Chairman of Oyo State Chapter of NBBofC, Hon Gbenga Opaleye, before the hard boys could back-down.
Among dignitaries that came to witness the exciting boxing bouts that have about five Ibadan based boxers was the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Yomi Oke and his counterpart in the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun, the CEO of Kayrom Lee, a principal partner of the Federal Ministry Youths and Sports on grassroots sport, Amb Romoke Ayinde among others.
