Man Petitions IGP Over Mother's Death At Mercy Land Church

A 35-year-old man, Moshood Aderonmu, has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to look into the circumstances surrounding the death of his mother, Mrs. Ayisat Aderonmu, who passed away in an Ibadan church more than a year ago.

According to the aggrieved man, his mother died under unexplainable circumstances on Saturday, 28 October, 2023, at the Christ Apostolic Church, Covenant of Mercy, Bishop Philips Academy, Iwo Road area of Ibadan.

In a November 20 petition submitted to the IGP through his attorney, Mr. Jonathan Ekperusi, Aderonmu and his family claimed that his mother was invited by the suspect, Prophet Taiwo Ojo, who owns CAC Covenant of Mercy, for a program on the said date, and that she and three other people were killed, with her body found in the morgue.

“It is our clients’ strong belief that there was no autopsy report to ascertain the actual cause of the death, and the investigation into the matter by the Oyo State Police was shoddily handled and compromised; hence, we want a fresh investigation into the case,” the petition sent to the IGP and made available to the media reads in part.

Meanwhile the family has also sent the copy of the petition to a human rights group for assistance, bearing in mind the huge influence of the suspect in the case, Prophet Taiwo Ojo.

Academic Community Raises Concern Over Death Threat On Oyosoro

Dr Oyosoro
The recent death threat and exile of a Nigerian scholar, Dr. Felix Oyosoro has generated widespread reaction among Nigeria's academic community and beyond.

Dr. Oyosoro, a respected academic with extensive research contributions, has been forced to seek refuge abroad after enduring repeated threats related to his scholarly work.

President of the Socio-political Philosophers Association of Nigeria, Prof. Ephraim Essien, has sharply criticized the Nigeria Police for their failure to protect Dr. Oyosoro stating that his forced departure is a symptom of a broader, growing assault on Nigeria’s intellectual community.

Essien highlighted that scholars, researchers, and intellectuals in Nigeria are increasingly becoming targets due to their work adding that the lack of adequate protection will further  jeopardizes the nation’s academic integrity and long-term intellectual development.

Prof. Essien further lamented that the inability of the Nigeria Police to secure the safety of scholars like Dr. Oyosoro has significant implications for the future of academic freedom in the country.

The Socio-political Philosophers Association, however, called for practical solutions, including the creation of a dedicated task force within the Nigeria Police to address threats against scholars and the introduction of legal protections for academics facing violence due to their research.

Essien also emphasized the need for Nigerian lawmakers to act urgently to ensure the safety of intellectuals, warning that without such measures, the country risks losing its brightest minds to exile, depriving Nigeria of valuable contributions in fields like social policy, governance, and public health.

Adding,  Dr. Sophie Quintin, co-founder of the West Africa Peace and Security Network (WAPSN), condemned the systemic risks faced by African scholars, calling for Nigerian authorities to act decisively to protect their intellectuals.

She further stressed that scholars must be allowed to pursue their research free from fear, highlighting the essential role intellectuals play in guiding societal progress and development.

Prof. Essien and the Socio-political Philosophers Association, however, urged Nigerian authorities to prioritize the protection of scholars stating that without adequate protections, the country risks stifling the very intellectual discourse that is critical for social and political change.

“A nation’s progress depends on its ability to foster and protect thought leaders.”

Scholars Dismiss Education Minister's Claim About Fake Certificates From Universities In The Republic Of Benin, Togo

An education consultant and president of Nigerian Lecturers in the Republic of Benin, Gabriel Kona, has revealed that the recent announcement by the Nigerian Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, regarding the invalidation of degrees obtained from universities in the Republics of Benin and Togo, which has caused significant concern among students, parents, and educational institutions, is false and misleading, as it does not represent the true picture of these universities or the certificates they issue.

The minister's declaration came after a report from a Nigerian investigative journalist shared the news of the existence of a racketeering network facilitating the acquisition of certificates from universities in the Benin Republic. This report raised concerns about the validity of these certificates and led to a broader inquiry by the Nigerian government.

Premised on this, the Nigerian education minister stated that only five universities in Benin and three in Togo are accredited to award degrees and that degrees obtained from other institutions in these countries are invalid, throwing a lot of past and present students in turmoil, thus threatening their academic and vocational pursuit.

In a press release released by the association, a thorough investigation and contact with the site and office of the ministry of education in Benin and Togo republics into the validity of these claims have revealed significant inaccuracies in the minister's statement.

"The Ministry of Higher Education in the Republic of Benin has officially published a list of 90 accredited institutions authorized to award degrees, and this is the link... https://enseignementsuperieur.gouv.bj/actualite/show/ACT-rzmG4X2a-870FE0A, to show.

This list includes a wide range of private and public universities that are fully recognized and accredited by the Beninese government. The claim that only five universities in Benin are accredited is therefore incorrect and misleading," the statement read in part.

According to the release, the Republic of Togo has accredited several universities, contrary to the minister's statement that only three are recognized. The misinformation provided by the Nigerian Minister of Education has caused unnecessary panic and distress among students and parents, many of whom have invested significant resources in their education abroad.

Further investigation and direct communication with the Ministry of Higher Education in Benin have confirmed that the universities listed in the Nigerian minister's statement are indeed accredited, but they are not the only institutions recognized by the Beninese government. The comprehensive list provided by the Beninese authorities clearly includes a wide range of institutions, including several private universities that have been unjustly discredited by the Nigerian government's statement.

The Beninese Ministry of Education has expressed concern over the misinformation and emphasized that all accredited institutions in Benin are recognized and authorized to award degrees. The ministry also highlighted the importance of recognizing the sovereignty of neighboring countries and respecting their accreditation processes.

The erroneous statement by the Nigerian Minister of Education has had a profound impact on Nigerian students studying in Benin and Togo. These students who have worked hard to obtain their degrees now face the risk of having their qualifications invalidated, which could have severe consequences for their future careers.

The Nigerian government’s decision to invalidate these degrees based on inaccurate information undermines the educational achievements of thousands of students and raises questions about the integrity of the investigation conducted by the Nigerian authorities.

The association, however, urged the Nigerian government to revise its stance on this matter, taking into consideration the accurate information provided by the Beninese and Togolese authorities. The future of Nigerian students who have studied diligently in these countries should not be jeopardized by a decision based on misinformation. The Nigerian government must ensure that its actions are based on verified facts and that the rights of its citizens to pursue education in accredited institutions abroad are upheld.

Prophet Beelzebub’s Animus & The Oyo Project

High Chief Rasheed Ladoja with Governor Seyi Makinde
There is a Prophet Beelzebub crisscrossing social media platforms in Oyo State with a cataclysmic prediction. The prophet, who is apparently the megaphone of some political elements in the state, has been on overdrive since the break out of the local government autonomy brouhaha trying to gain relevance in the state by disparaging Governor Seyi Makinde.

In the warped imagination of this prophet and his sponsors, the way up for them politically is to try and pull down the governor who they see as the albatross to their political significance. The prophet, who has already recruited some simple-minded disciples, does not see any good thing in the horizon for the state. Instead what his Ouija board has revealed to him is the imminence of a massive wind that would blow and cause serious damage to the state government. When he consulted his crystal ball for divination, the feedback was that a storm would blow through the state that would discomfit the governor.

The aim of these fellows is clear: Distract the governor with a view to making him do less of what had endeared him to the people by drawing him away from governance into politicking. But they underrated the man they are dealing with. Makinde knows enough to realize that what these folks want is attention that would result in distraction. So, he has resolved to totally ignore them.

For the information of Prophet Beelzebub and his company, Makinde didn’t get to where he is by a night flight, he worked his way up. He built a multinational business from the scratch. He is laser-focused. He has enough steel in him to stave off distractions.

So, instead of paying attention to the doomsayers, Makinde has focused on the Oyo project. He has been busy building bridges and strengthening governance.

Governor Makinde, who is observing his annual leave, paid a visit to a former governor of the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja. There have been rumours of a cold war between the duo. But the visit of the governor thawed the ice and put the rumour mongers out of job. So, those who have been fanning the embers of discord between the two leaders can look for another engagement.

On Governor Makinde’s instruction, Barrister Bayo Lawal, Oyo State Acting Governor, inaugurated the governing board of the Rule of Law Enforcement Authority headed by Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd) yesterday, with the mandate to coordinate and complement the implementation of the provisions of Oyo State Laws and Regulations relating to health and environmental standards, asset management/maintenance and road traffic safety and maintenance, among other functions.

So, Governor Makinde is busy discharging his responsibility as the number one citizen of Oyo State. He has completely ignored the cynics and concentrated on his vision of birthing a peaceful, prosperous and orderly state.

So, Prophet Beelzebub and Company, don’t get too excited about the coming of winds and storms. You can take this to the bank: If there is a wind, Makinde will ride over it. If there is a storm, Makinde will weather it because he has the backing of the people.

Prophet Beelzebub, let’s take a retreat into history…

Back in the days when Germany was divided, a huge wall separated East and West Berlin.

One day, some people in East Berlin took a truck load of garbage and dumped it on the West Berlin side.

The people of West Berlin could have done the same thing, but they didn’t. Instead they took a truck load of canned goods, bread, milk and other provisions, and neatly stacked it on the East Berlin side.

On top of this stack they placed the sign: Each gives what he has.

Prophet Beelzebub and Company, keep throwing your stones since that is all you have, Makinde will build with them.

Keep throwing your lemons, Makinde will make lemonade with them.

Keep throwing your insults, Makinde will turn them into results.

Keep throwing your bile, Makinde will turn them into bills of progress.

Each person gives what he has; no one can give what he lacks.

Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju is the Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State’s Governor ‘Seyi Makinde

Review Nigeria's Constitution for Better Governance -CAC President Charges President Tinubu

The President of Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, Dr. Henry Ojo, has urged President Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu to find a way to review the present constitution of the country, which he said armed those in government with excessive power.

Speaking with newsmen at the 28th anniversary celebration of Christ Apostolic Church Arogungbogunmi International, Ibadan, on Sunday, Dr. Ojo said for the newly issued Supreme Court judgment on local government funding to be a thing of reality, the presidential system of government and the 1999 constitution, which he noted was foisted on the people by the military, must be reviewed.

"I discovered that it is not the problem of those who are in government. It is the problem of the constitution. Our constitution is corrupt and needs to be rewritten. There is nothing that President Bola Tinubu can do outside the provisions of the constitution. If he wants to tamper with the country’s constitution, we would accuse him of failing to follow it.

“The only thing he can do now is to constitute a constitution amendment committee to amend it. The presidential system of government is very expensive. Since Nigeria adopted the presidential system of government, we have been having problems. Those in the National Assembly are not supposed to be there full-time, but our constitution says that they should be there full-time. Until we restructure the country, nothing will change.

“I believe that this would usher in development at the grassroots level. If we have the federal, state, and local governments running well, it would be better. However, a situation where the governors pocket the local government councils could not be helped. Now, we can hold the local government responsible if there is no development," Dr. Ojo said.

Speaking further, Dr. Ojo advises Christians all over the world to be steadfast and to prepare for the rapture of the believers.

“My word to Christians all over the world is to be steadfast. We're getting closer to the end of the world. What is happening across the globe is a sign that the coming of the Lord is at hand. The church should prepare for the rapture of believers,” he added.

Also speaking at the epoch anniversary, the General Evangelist of CAC Worldwide, Prophet Richard Kolawole, attributed the success story of CAC Arogungbogunmi International to God, who made it possible.

Prophet Kolawole
“Christ Apostolic Church Arogungbogunmi clocks 28 today. This church is in a pagan community. It was the grace of God that made this church stand until today. It was not an easy task for this church to survive here.

“We thank God. We showed the people love. Before you can win a soul for Christ, you must use the principle of love. I can tell you categorically that 85 percent of the entire population of this church are converts. We didn’t bring members of other churches to this place. God used us to win souls for Christ here.

“Those who are here were those whose hearts were won to Christ through the ministration here, not members of other churches. They were won to Christ through the ministry of this church.

“I exalt the King of Kings for my appointment as the General Evangelist of CAC, Nigeria, and Overseas on October 17, 2023. I started the ministry as a young evangelist. I celebrate the principal officers of this great mission. I celebrate my jewel, Prophetess Christianah Olanike Kolawole, for her invaluable roles,” the renowned cleric said.

Prophet Kolawole, who is also the founder of Christ Apostolic Church Arogungbogunmi International, Ibadan, further advised Christians to be vigilant, saying, “This is a difficult time; Christians should not fold their arms and should not keep quiet. We are approaching the end of the world. You can hear about happenings in America as well as Nigeria. We shall overcome it in Jesus name.”

President Bola Tinubu's establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development has been praised by the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), South/West, which views it as a "visionary leadership" move meant to address the long-standing issues in the agriculture sector.

In a statement, Rev. Gideon Oluleye, the association's Chairman for the South-West Zone, praised the president's resolve to end the ongoing hostilities between farmers and herders, which have hampered economic growth and jeopardized national unity.

“This development is a significant step towards addressing the lingering issues between farmers and herders, and the poultry association sees this as the government’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the lingering crisis rocking the Nigerian agricultural sector,” the statement read in part.

PAN also expressed appreciation for the contributions of several key stakeholders in the successful implementation of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform.

Meanwhile, the association has scheduled a stakeholders meeting for Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the Kakanfo Inn, Ibadan where PAN National President, Mr. Sunday Ezeobiora, is expected to address members and other relevant stakeholders in the poultry farming sector on the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerian poultry farmers

Oyo APC Brandishing Lies As Political Weapon

In its characteristic disdain for the truth, the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) irked the sensibilities of the good people of the state with a tissue of lies in a statement issued on Thursday, June 20, 2024, on Fasola Industrial Hub, food security in the state, and the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER).

Ordinarily, we would not have dignified the statement with any response because Oyo State residents are not only wary of the APC, they are also weary of its lies. So, the average Oyo State citizen discountenances every statement from the APC’s falsehood foundry, knowing that nothing wholesome can emanate therefrom. But for the sake of a few who may be beguiled by APC’s stock-in-trade, we wish to set the record straight.

To start with, Governor Seyi Makinde, being a genuine Democrat, has never attempted to gag or breathe down the necks of the opposition parties or their members. The Governor, who is the father of the state, does his part perfectly by giving everyone ample room to operate and ventilate their views without any fear. As it concerns state matters, the Governor is not partisan because of his belief that the state belongs to all, and everyone is needed to contribute their quotas for the state to attain its envisioned height. But this fact is lost on members of the APC. Perhaps they need some tutoring.

The function of an opposition party is not to fabricate lies to win sympathy, nor is it to run down government functionaries to whip up sentiments. Rather, it is to consistently proffer solutions to societal challenges and offer superior arguments on pertinent issues. By so doing, it puts the ruling party on its toes and wins the respect of the populace. This positions it as a preferred alternative and brightens its chances for a possible takeover of the reins of power at the next opportunity. But in this respect, the APC in Oyo State has failed abysmally. Instead of proffering solutions and offering suggestions that can improve the fortunes of the state, it goes about like a kid who, having lost his lunch pack, insults and assaults everyone in sight. In 2024, that’s a shame.

APC, in the unstated statement, claims that “a large chunk of the facility (Fasola Industrial Hub) has been converted into housing estates, with most of the plots shared out among the governor and his cronies.”

That is a web of lies.

Here is the truth.

Governor Makinde inherited a dilapidated Fasola Farm Estate. His desire to transform the state from subsistence farming into an industrialized agricultural center, primarily to boost food production, grow revenue, and create employment opportunities, drove him to turn Fasola into an industrial hub. The efforts are already paying off as the hub is fully built, and currently eight multinationals are operating there. Contrary to the fabrication of the APC, Fasola is emerging as a business cluster and not a housing estate.

One of the companies operating at Fasola is FrieslandCampina WAMCO. This company sits on 200 hectares of land, where it runs its daily activities. There is also Milkin Barn Agro Services Ltd., which occupies 150 hectares for maize cultivation and dairy production. Another company is E4 Farms, with 40 hectares for crop and dairy production. There are also Brownhill Farms, with 30 hectares for crop production and greenhouses, and Zigma Ltd., with 37 hectares for cashew production. The IITA-owned Generative and GOSEED Vegetative Ltd. is running a cassava value chain outfit on 100 hectares of land.

Pray. With all these, where is the space for a housing estate?

What the APC does not know or chooses to ignore is that the Fasola Industrial Hub has become a national reference point. Early in the year, the National Project Coordinator, Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), Sanusi Abubakar, led a team from 16 states of the federation on a field trip to Fasola. After touring the hub, the team submitted thus: “When we talk of livestock centers, you cannot find this kind of arrangement that we have in Fasola Industrial Hub in any other place.”

That comment, coming from a national agency, is a badge of honor.

A few weeks ago, Vice President Kashim Shettima, while commissioning the 76.67-kilometer Alao-Akala Memorial Highway constructed by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, had nothing but praise for the Oyo State helmsman for his exemplary leadership and commitment to the wellbeing of the people. The Vice President lauded Makinde’s agribusiness phenomenon and assured the whole state that the Federal Government would support the program. Now, who should the people believe between the nation’s vice president and Oyo APC?

APC also stated in its release that “in the last five years of the PDP administration, the state government has not brought out a single visible achievement that has a direct effect on food security or the promotion of agriculture.”

This is a deliberate and malicious misrepresentation of the situation.

Here is the truth.

Under Omituntun 1.0, the government embarked on several intervention programs for smallholder farmers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government supported 10,000 smallholder farmers with farm inputs, and under the Oyo N-CARES project, the government distributed various types of inputs to smallholder farmers across the state; no fewer than 1,500 farmers benefited from this gesture.

In Omituntun 2.0, under the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery, the government gave 50 kg  of maize to about 2,600 poultry farmers. A similar gesture was extended to 1,000 fish farmers, cattle breeders, and piggery farmers. The government also supported about 10,000 small-holder farmers with seeds and seedlings.

To bring down the cost of food items, Governor Seyi Makinde, during a meeting with farmers and traders in March 2024, announced a 50 percent reduction in the cost of clearing farmlands. He also announced the immediate suspension of revenue collection on farm produce marketed within the state for six months. All of these have significantly improved food security in the state.

Another claim by the APC is that “the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER) was another conduit designed to hoodwink the people of the state.”

This is a blatant lie.

Here is the truth.

The Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER) are proof of Governor Makinde’s original thinking. At a time when state governments were doling out N10,000 to citizens and giving some cups of grain to the people purportedly to cushion the effect of the twin policy of subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and the floating of the naira exchange rate, Oyo State Government came up with a well-thought-out program to empower the people and energize the economy. Makinde did not toe the path of palliative; instead, he devised a program that would result in economic growth.

Through the SAfER intervention, the government provided food items to needy households. It also offered subsidized transportation to students and the elderly. In the same vein, free health insurance was provided for retirees, pregnant women, and students. Similarly, farmers were offered support, while micro and small entrepreneurs got loans to grow their businesses.

Definitely, the 200,000 needy households that got food support as a result of the SAfER intervention would not agree with the APC that the scheme “was a conduit designed to hoodwink the people of the state.” Neither would the over 1,000,000 people across the state that benefitted from the subsidized transportation nor the over 250,000 that got enrolled free of charge on the health insurance scheme. Without a doubt, the 3,525 smallholder farmers who got low-interest loans totaling N1 billion and the 2,085 micro and small business owners who got a total of N500 million as loans would waste no time in tagging the APC’s claim as a lie.

Dear APC members, now that your lies have crumbled like a pack of cards, can we have positive engagements that would foster the development of our dear state?

Olanrewaju is the Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State Governor.

Oyo NLC Demands Total Reversal Of Tariff Hike, Pickets NERC, IBEDC Offices Ibadan

Oyo NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins
dressing members during the picketing
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Oyo State chapter, have picketed the offices of the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over hikes in electricity tariffs in the country.

Some of the offices picketed by the organized labour are NERC office at Iyaganku, IBEDC Headquarters at Ring Road, its regional headquarters at Oluyole, the IBEDC Staff Development Centre at Iyaganku, and the IBEDC Business Units at Dugbe Apata.

Also picketed by the Union was the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at Jericho in Ibadan.

The unions demanded a total reversal of the tariff by the federal government, or else the offices will be shut down until it's request is granted.

The picketing action was monitored by men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), who had followed them since 7:50 a.m. when they started.

Officers, staff, and consumers were seen chasing out of the buildings in line with the directive of the national secretariat of the unions, who carried different placards with various inscriptions.

Addressing the journalists in Ibadan, Oyo State NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, disclosed that Nigerians cannot continue to live in suffering, saying that they are tired of the inhuman policies of the federal government.

The NLC Chairman said that the picketing is just to pass a message to the IBEDC and NERC as regards the hike in the tariff of electricity, noting that Nigerians are already facing epileptic power supply and paying for what they are not enjoying.

"We are here today because we are fed up with the inhuman policies being rolled out by our leaders. As of today, living in Nigeria has become a crime. We find it difficult to relate to other countries. Now we are locked in, enslaved inside our own father's land. Sometimes ago, the federal government removed subsidies on everything, making life unbearable for Nigerian citizens.

"We are here to pass a message to the IBEDC and NERC concerning the hike in the price of electricity supply. Already, we are enjoying the epileptic supply of electricity, but now they are saying we still have to pay more for what we are enjoying.

"We are here today to say enough is enough; they should please let the poor breadth in this country. We are begging, we are wailing, and we are crying to them to let the poor breadth; that is the only thing we are agitating for.

Also in her address, Comrade Ranti Oluwemimo, who is the Vice Chairman of TUC in Oyo State, said that many people, particularly the youth, are willing to leave the country because the leaders have made it inhabitable for them.

He queried President Bola Tinubu for not putting necessary measures in place before removing the subsidy, saying that all the Union wants is the total reversal of the price of electricity.

"When they wanted to contest, they promised us a good life; they promised us a better life; they said there would be a change; we voted them in, and they are making life difficult for us. Enough of this. Things must come back to normal."

Comrade Abiodun Bamgboye, who spoke on behalf of the Campaign for Democratic and Workers' Rights (CDWR), advised the federal government to reverse the current hike in the price of electricity.

He disclosed that there is no justification for the hike in the electricity tariff because there is nothing that has shown that the federal government is subsidizing the electricity.

"We did not see any justification for this hike in the price of electricity, because to us, there is nothing that has shown that there have been subsidies. Electricity has not been available to Nigerians, so where does the subsidy come from or who are the people who have been receiving or benefiting from it? I think the argument around subsidy is just a plot to compound the economic hardship that the Nigerian people are going through at this material point in time.

"We feel that that is uncalled for, and that's why we are calling on the federal government to reverse the current hike in the price of electricity."

Sports Minister Rallies Support For New Super Eagles Coach, Finidi George.

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has rallied the support of critical stakeholders and Nigerians for Finidi George, the newly appointed coach of the senior national football team, the Super Eagles.

Speaking at the unveiling of the new head coach of the Super Eagles on Monday inside the media center of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Senator Enoh, who observed that the appointment of Finidi George as the national team coach was well received by Nigerians, expressed his confidence in his ability to take the Super Eagles to a new height.

For this to happen, he stated that the new coach requires the support of all Nigerians for him to succeed. According to the minister, with his appointment, Finidi George has the responsibility to bring back the liveliness and excitement of Nigerian football.

The Minister stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's started with so much support for Nigerian football, adding that we can't afford to let him down.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Ibrahim Muza Gusau, stated that the appointment of Finidi George signaled a new dawn in the history of Nigerian football because his appointment was in line with the clamor of Nigerians for the appointment of an indigenous coach to handle the Super Eagles.

He explained that it was in deference to this yearning that the federation directed the technical team saddled with the responsibility of picking the coach to look inward and choose an indigenous coach for the national team. Now that the choice of the coach has been made, he has called on all Nigerians to support him in his new role, especially with the World Cup and AFCON qualifiers in sight.

He assured that, as a policy, the NFF gave Finidi George the free hand to choose his technical staff, stressing that the assistants will be paid on a game-by-game basis to avoid crises in the payment of their allowances that had bedeviled the process in the past. He also assured them that they would be entitled to bonuses and entitlements enjoyed by players and coaches.

In his response, Finidi George thanked NFF and Nigerians for his appointment, and he promised to put in his best effort to lift Nigerian football to the next level.

Former Nigerian internationals Daniel Amokachi (assistant coach), Olatunji Baruwa (goalkeeper trainer), Chima Onyeka (fitness trainer), and Benjamin James were also unveiled as members of the technical team.

Oyo Netball Boss, Kayrom Lee, Urges Members To Work Together For Association Glory

Ambassador Romoke Ayinde with the members of Oyo State Netball Association at the event
The chairman of the Oyo State Netball Association, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde, has revealed that there is no going back on the revival of the game of netball in the state, stressing that in order to succeed, hard work and dedication are required from everyone.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the association held at the Obafemi Awolowo stadium in Ibadan on May 10, Amb Ayinde, the Chief Executive Officer of Kayrom Lee Group of Companies, urged all members to work together so as to achieve the set goals and ambitions the association was created for.

"As we embark on this journey together, let us first reflect on the journey so far and appreciate the role all of us have played to achieve our little wins so far, but what is even more important is understanding what each and every one of us has to do to achieve our set goals and ambitions ahead," she said.

Speaking further, Amb. Ayinde explained some vital ways and pivotal roles each member has to play to bring the game of netball back to reckoning among the youth, especially girls in society.

"One of our primary focuses will be on enhancing our facilities and acquiring necessary equipment. From goal posts to jerseys, bibs, balls, nets, and beyond, we must ensure that our players have access to top-notch resources to thrive in the sport.

Furthermore, securing sponsorships will be paramount to fueling our initiatives and sustaining our operations. By forging partnerships with like-minded organizations, we can amplify our impact and reach greater heights.

Organizing competitions among selected secondary schools within Ibadan will not only foster a spirit of healthy competition but also unearth and nurture raw talent within our communities," Amb Ayinde added.

Amb. Ayinde, however, urged the Oyo state government to come to the aid of the association by providing the much-needed funds and equipment so that the athletes will be able to win laurels for the state in the upcoming National Youth Games and National Sports Festival later this year.
