Groups Salute Senator Balogun, Senator Odebiyi Stand Over Insecurity in Nigeria

Professional Women's Group and Concerned Christian Citizens have commended Senator Kola Balogun and Tolu Odebiyi for their courage in expressing their concern on the issue of security in the country.

In a statement signed by representatives of the groups, Mrs Foluso Oyenuga, FCA, and an octogenarian, Prof Adebisi Sowunmi, they urged both Senators to continue making bold and unbiased submissions until the government finds a way to address the present security challenges facing the country.

It would be recalled that Sen. Balogun, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, in his presentation during plenary on motion on general insecurity in the nation, said "It was an opportunity for me to make a strong position on the spate of insecurity in the nation and particularly recently in my district. I had to speak and express the concerns and fears of my people and Nigerians in general on the killings by herdsmen all over the nation. While Sen. Odebiyi, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, in his own submission said "We have a national crisis on our hands. It is a national crisis that has been devoid of leadership politically and morally. We must see it the way it is. Between May 2017 and May 2020, there have been 624 attacks, 2239 killed, 393 wounded, 253 kidnapped, 16 raped 752 homes destroyed. That is an analysis done by a research firm in Brussels on what is happening in this country.
“People’s earnings, people’s lives have been ruined. It is upsetting and we must rise. This country is on a precipice of a civil war. The president needs to speak and calm the nation.”
According to the statement, the groups commended both Senators for the boldness to speak the mind of the people on the situation of security in the country bothering on the issue of Banditry and Fulani killer herdsmen.
"We commend both Senator Balogun and Senator Odebiyi who are from South West on this submission at the Senate.
"We however expect more of this honest and frank submissions as true representative of their Constituencies.
"We look forward to greater cooperation with them on this and other issues that  will accurately reflect the true position of things in their Constituencies" the statement concluded.
