Group Warns Adelabu, APC Over Oyo State Peace

A social political group, New Nation Enlightenment Foundation (NNN) has joined their voice with other well meaning individuals and organizations in calling on the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo State chapter to accept victory of Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 9, 2019 gubernatorial election so as not to throw the peaceful state into chaos.
The group, in a statement signed by the founder, Mrs. Foluso Oyenuga, FCA, call on Adebayo Adelabu and his party to stop their action of trying to snatch the governorship seat through the backdoor.

The court of appellate jurisdiction on Moday, 11th of Novermber, set aside the judgment delivered by the election petition tribunal that upheld the election of Makinde as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission and also ordered that status quo before the tribunal’s judgment should remain, which is the return and declaration of Makinde as the winner of the March 9, 2019 governorship poll in Oyo State.
The court held that if not for time, it would have ordered a re-trial at the tribunal, noting that unfortunately, the time limit of 180days for tribunal had been exhausted.
The statement read: "Governor Makinde polled 512,621 votes to beat his closest challenger, APC's Adebayo Adelabu, who scored 357,928 votes, a difference of 157,639 votes.
"Statutory requirement is that victory in elections should be by a “simple majority. The laws also indicate that election tribunals can only overturn results where there are proven violations of the Electoral Act or The Constitution.

"We have therefore watched with disbelief the unnecessary departure from modesty by the APC since the Tuesday November 12, 2019 newspaper headline, proclaiming “Confusion in Oyo Over Appeal Court Ruling.
"In spite of this viewpoint, however, majority of the people of Oyo State are not confused about their choice in Governor Makinde. Clearly, the people of Oyo have given their mandate to the Governor.
It would therefore be appropriate for the Oyo APC and its appendages to be high-minded in defeat and accept the situation. There is no need to expend effort to get through the back door what the people of Oyo State have not given them. Democratic mandates are bestowed by popular votes only."
It would be recalled that Governor Makinde received a massive endorsement at the polls by the people of Oyo State, having won in 28 of the 33 Local Governments, and secured 26 of the 32 seats in the House of Assembly.
