Al-Hilal Eyes Osimhen After Failing To Get Mbappe, Messi

Victor Osimhen
Saudi Arabian Pro League side, Al-Hilal have shifted their attention to signing Nigeria's Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen after missing out on Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Kylian Mbappe and 2022 World Cup winner, Lionel Messi.

Al Hilal submitted a world record bid worth 300 million euros to sign Mbappe which was accepted by Paris Saint-Germain, but the French superstar has insisted that he doesn't want to play in Saudi Arabia even if it's for a season.
The four-time AFC Champions League winners also attempted to lure Messi to Saudi Arabia this summer but despite the mega offer, the Barcelona and Argentina legend chose to join Inter Miami instead.
According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Al-Hilal are aware that the chances of signing Mbappe are low and would be ready to open negotiations with Italian Serie A champions, Napoli for Osimhen.
Osimhen, who emerged as the highest goal scorer in Italy last season, has been offered a new deal that would keep him at Napoli until the summer of 2027 but the contract has not yet been signed and a sale has not yet been ruled out as he is not yet off the market.
Napoli would consider a sale if they receive a bid too good to turn down, and the figure being bandied around is €200 million. The fee has scared off potential European buyers for the former Lille striker as interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich has gone cold in recent weeks.
In 101 appearances for Napoli, Osimhen has scored 59 goals and provided fourteen assists.

Gov. Makinde: Confluence of vision and resourcefulness

Gov Makinde
Let’s set out with a fact:
Between 1999 and 2019 no governor in Oyo State constructed a 65-kilometer long road, not one. That is a 20-year period. But within two years in office, Engineer Seyi Makinde was able to commence and complete the reconstruction of the Moniya-Ijaiye-Iseyin Road. The 65-kilometre road project, which was awarded on November 1, 2019, was inaugurated on June 3, 2021. The road has taken away the stress associated with plying that route and reduced travel time between Ibadan, the state capital and the Oke-Ogun zone of the state, by as much as over two hours. Before the road was reconstructed, commuters spent about three hours between Moniya and Iseyin. But now, the trip is completed in 50 minutes or less.

But the Moniya-Iseyin road is not Makinde’s only badge of honour, there is also the ongoing 76.7km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso road. This is a completely new road which will link the Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso zones of the state. The project is in fulfillment of the governor’s promise that his administration would focus on road projects which target the state’s economy and link the five zones of the state to increase economic activities and stem rural-urban migration. When completed, this road will also provide easy access between the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology main campus in Ogbomoso and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources in Iseyin. The road is nearing completion.
There is also the Oyo-Iseyin Road that links the Oyo and Oke-Ogun zones. Though a federal road, Makinde resolved to reconstruct the road due to its importance to the economy of the state. When the road is delivered, it would make access to Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, which is also being developed by the state, easy.
Then there is the iconic Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, which is so dear to the governor’s heart because of the magnitude of its potential impact on the state’s economy. The 110-kilometre road, which the governor has promised to deliver before the end of his current tenure, connects the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to the Ibadan-Ife expressway. It also connects the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to the Abeokuta-Ibadan road. Therefore, the road takes the weight of heavy traffic coming from Lagos and other parts of the country off the city centre. The road will open a new corridor of business opportunities in the state. In addition, not only will the road transform the aerial view of Ibadan and wean it from the ‘brown roof city’ appellation, it will also upgrade its status to that of a 21st century city.
There are also other road projects such as the rehabilitation of 45.3km Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road, the reconstruction of 37.41km Beere-Olorunsogo-Amuloko-Akanran-Dagbolu Road, the dualisation of the 12.5km Challenge-Odo Ona Elewe-Apata Road, the reconstruction of 12km Apete-Awotan-Akufo Road into a rigid pavement road, the reconstruction of 21km Airport-Ajia-New Ife Express Road with a spur to Amuloko, the dualisation of 7.3km Agodi Gate-Old Ife-Adegbayi Junction with a spur to Alakia Airport, Ibadan, the reconstruction of 5.2km Gedu-Oroki-Sabo-Asipa Road, and the reconstruction of the 4.15km BCJ-Railway-Gbekuba-NIHORT Junction, Ibadan, among other road projects.
These are in addition to other landmark projects across the state such as building a new College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources, a campus of Ladoke Akintola University, in Iseyin, as well as regular payment of salaries and pensions and a deliberate effort to clear the backlog of inherited unpaid gratuities.
How has Makinde been able to pack so many achievements into four years and seven weeks despite the challenges of the times? How has he been able to accomplish so much in spite of the dwindling revenue from the centre? Why have the governor’s strides been longer, better and more impactful than those who came before him?
Two things are working for Seyi Makinde; these are vision and resourcefulness.
Vision is travelling into the future to see what is possible. Without vision nothing great gets done. Without vision, there is nothing to aspire to. Without vision, motivation to beat odds will be nil. Vision is great because it brings focus to activities and prevents wasteful deployment of resources. Once a vision is cast, all energies are channeled towards its actualization. Thus, other things become insignificant.
Great leaders always live in the possibilities of the future, not the limitations of the moment. They do not allow the realities of the present to muffle them, rather they are motivated by the prospects the future offers and allow the possibilities to dictate their course of actions. Hence, they rely on vision, which is the compass that guides a state into its desired destination. The vision encapsulates the aspiration of the state; where it wants to be and what it wants to become. Without a compelling vision, a state will only manage to crawl.
Because resources are never always sufficient to achieve the vision, leaders require resourcefulness to birth their vision.
Resourcefulness goes beyond doing more with less; it is the ability to optimize available resources to achieve set objectives. Resourcefulness is coming to the realization that the leader and his team are capable of doing more than they initially thought possible. It is looking inwards and outwards to get a problem solved. It is thinking outside the box to make the seemingly impossible achievable. Being resourceful has less to do with insufficient personnel, tools or funding but more to do with deploying available resources into finding a way out of a labyrinth. Hence, every complaint about inadequate resource is an admission of deficiency in resourcefulness. Resourceful leaders can always get any resource they need by making use of the available ones.
When Makinde assumed office in 2019, he realized that reliance on revenue from the Federation Account would result in failure to deliver on his electoral promises. So, he devised a means of expanding the state’s income streams without taking the easy route of increasing taxes. Rather, he resorted to widening the tax net and capturing more persons who were not paying taxes in both the formal and informal sectors. His administration, to tackle the challenges of tax evasion, tax avoidance, tax ascertainment and the cumbersome payment system, deployed information and communication technology. The government also reduced some charges, such as the mandatory tax on building plan approval and development levy fees, to encourage more persons to voluntarily pay their taxes as and when due. The state similarly activated the land use charge to raise revenue for capital projects.
The strategies paid off with the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) increasing from N24.63 billion in 2018 to N26.58 billion in 2019. It leapt to N38.04 billion in 2020 and hit N52.08 billion in 2021. By the end of 2022, the state’s monthly IGR was about N4 billion. Consequently, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state rose from N2.75 trillion in 2019 to N4.05 trillion as of Q3 2022.
Despite this growth in IGR, there were still funding gaps for capital projects. So, the governor keyed into the Alternative Project Funding Approach (APFA), an innovative system for raising funds for projects. With that the government was able to undertake some major projects such as the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, the 9.7km Saki Township Road dualisation, the 299 primary healthcare centres renovation and the General Gas Flyover construction.
What vision conceives, resourcefulness births.
When Makinde envisioned a remodeled Lekan Salami Sports Complex, his resourcefulness made it a reality.
When Makinde conceived the idea of reconstructing Moniya-Iseyin road, his resourcefulness delivered it to the people of Oyo State.
When Makinde thought of renovating primary health centres in Oyo State, his resourcefulness delivered about 300 PHCs to the citizens.
When Makinde visualized Ladoke Akintola University of Technology being wholly-owned by Oyo State, his resourcefulness made it possible.
When Makinde thought of a campus of LAUTECH being cited in Iseyin, his resourcefulness made it a reality.
With vision, Makinde imagined a brand new road to connect Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun zones in the state, with resourcefulness the road is gradually becoming a reality.
And there are tens and tens more…..
When vision meets resourcefulness, greatness becomes a cinch. That is the story of Seyi Makinde’s strides in Oyo State.
Olanrewaju is the Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor.

Nigerians Will Be Better For It If President Tinubu Can Help Fix Electricity Problem - Archbishop Powerson

Supreme Archbishop Powerson
Supreme Archbishop Olusegun Ojo Powerson is the General Overseer of Holy Ghost Royal House of Restoration Church Worldwide; President, Family Restoration Ministry, an arm of the church. He is also the Global Chief Presiding Prelate of Global Congress of Bishops and Apostles. In this interview, the revered man of God bared his mind on national issues as well as causes of the rampant cases of divorce? Excepts
How did you find yourself in God's vineyard?
It's a long story, I could write a whole book even in series, I hate any thing called Church then, but to cut it short, I became a Christian in an attempt to kill my pastor who is my spiritual father now. I was a bad boy , I schooled in Kiriji Memorial College, Igbajo, I started a gang and cult group in the school, I trying to kill the man of God, shot the gun, it won't fire, and he preached, repent or perish" that caught my attention and I called one of the evangelist there and asked what it meant, people had ran away because they saw me and my gang . He did his best to explain the two words and I said to him , " keep the perish, I will keep the repent" and out of the crowd of about 3,000 people, I was the only person that came out and got saved. Being his son spiritually gave me an idea of why that was. After then, I started having funny dreams and I had to travel to my village to get power to cast it out but it would not work. Then the owner of heaven and earth showed up , a mighty hand with a hole appeared to him, I wasn't sleeping. I started going to places here and there. It was people in the traditional religion that actually told me that God wants to use me. "Eludua lo fe lo e"  God then spoke to me about it.
How long have you been in the Ministry?
I have been in the ministry for 43 years , March 24 of this year, makes it 43 years
What is your advice to President Bola Tinubu on how to make the country better than it is?
My advise to Tinubu to make the country more better than it is, is that he should embrace justice and equity. In the real sense of it , nobody knows how to run any nation until you have a good heart for the people. The problem of our nation to really get our people out of the situation we are , financially, politically is that we need a leader who must be narrow minded. Nigeria is not a place where you want to rule and listen to everybody's opinion, you must have your goal and purpose to make a change, try to become a patriarch for a change. I would say this and I know I will get a call and be scolded for saying it, this is where I felt out former president, Olusegun Obasanjo missed it. He is the most qualified person when it comes to that, his integrity is strong and not easily persuaded but along the line, he lost focus, may be the nation is too big for him to handle but the best way to handle this nation is for a leader to be narrow minded in whatever he wants to do.
Would you say President Tinubu is on the right track going by what he is doing presently?
Am going to answer it this way, I was an amateur wrestler and trained my son how to wrestle and also a footballer. In a football match, you don't rejoice that you have won the match even when you are leading by three goals to nothing until the final whistle is blown, so that's the way I will answer but all indicators shows that things would work if we permit it. But then, I think we have ghost rulers in this nation that makes decisions for the president or whoever. I have been saying it since the regime of former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, somebody is probably behind the scene that people don't know by name, he could be an entity, principality or human being. This person is so powerful that whatever he demands, you can't say no. But somebody has to wake up someday and say "damn it, if I die, I die" there must be a change. If President Bola Tinubu continues like this, we would all rejoice but it is not be over until the fat lady shrinks, that's all I will say about that.
The current administration has introduced N8,000 conditional cash transfer for poor Nigerians as parliative to cushion the effect of the removal of subsidy on price of petrol, what is your opinion on this?
That's what we call welfare system. The N8,000 might look so small or peanut as it were, but welfare is not meant to actually satisfy you but to provoke you to still get something doing. We call it parliative here, look the meaning that I will tell you is not something you should just relax on. So, I think, it's still a step in the right direction, at least something is coming out, if it will reach the people. We are used to the old system of doing things that little things doesn't even mean much, but it's little things that becomes great. Anyone who doesn't have fifty naira and you give hundred naira, that is a lot. That's an unbelievable quantum leap. It can prevent someone from not going to dumpsites to eat. If they start from there I believe it can still be increased, I live in the United States for forty years and I know what welfare system is. Two of my siblings actually are still working for them my immediate elder sister is a manager in the entire city of New York. I have people in my church that survives on this alone. Peanuts as it were but it brings smiles on their faces when they have it.
But we don't have that data base and it sometimes crash?
When I read about it, I said may be because of BVN or NIN because you can't even get the social welfare without social security number, I have mine which I carry all over the world, that is what qualifies you as an American or you are permitted to have all kinds of benefits as it were. Looking at it , I would say, we are still heading in the right direction. We have BVN, NIN now to be able to collect it, you have to provide that. The problem of inadequate power supply should be addressed so that the database can be effective. The database will always crash if there is no constant electricity. The nation's electrical system needs to be fixed. The only thing this government will do to fix the problem of this country is to fix the power sector and nothing else.
What do you have to say about the security situation in the country?
Security has to do with individuals because the security officers themselves are corrupt. Security system in Nigeria will always fail if it's not about the system. There is no system that works, everything is about money. People go into politics because of money. The system always fail us because everybody is after money .
Has religious houses failed in their duties to curb the high rate of divorce in marriages and social vices among youth?
It has nothing to do with religion. understand this, the family predated any religion,
It has to do with the moral decadent of our nature. Do you know that I have it on record that Nigerian women are the most unfaithful wives all over the world.? Our women are deceitful, am very sorry my mothers, sisters wife are women, but the reality is that men can not be that perverse if women are not allowing it. So divorce will come because our women wants to be Europeans in this part of the world. Among the Europeans, family doesn't mean much to them, my son in America can just call me and say "dad, Bisi and I just got married yesterday, one day you will see your daughter -in- law" that's it. If it's in Africa here you will say "you did what? " The thing about marriage that leads to divorce nowadays is that everybody goes into it based on emotion not on reality. The church or religious houses are not to blame but the family that have failed, family, marriage, wrong family, this days, everything is about outer beauty not inner beauty, I will take a woman who has destiny over a woman who is beautiful. Beauty will fade, but destiny doesn't give up , even at the point of death , some people are still trying to make it.
You take the hand of a woman and say I love you but in reality , she is a liability , one day you wake up and discover that beauty is a deceit. I don't care if you are on the pulpit, you will walk away because I have to fulfill my destiny and this is a liability, a curse in my life. They say what God has joined together, let no man put asunder, has God joined it? Because you are in court or church does not mean God joined it. Whatever God joined, no man has the ability to put asunder, that is what the Bible is saying. I was able to settle a divorce case of 23 years here within three days. The man was having fun all these years and when asked why he divorced her, he said because the wife had a higher education she was lording it over him which the woman could not deny. So ,does that have anything to do with the church? No. It has to do with home etiquette .
Domestic violence on women is happening more in Europe and America, why is this so?
In America, it's probably few or nothing if it comes to our own people. I am talking in Nigeria now, if you are talking of Europe, it's horrible. What calls for that is the economic situation of the nation. Why would somebody be doing hookups if the home is good. It's a terrible thing.

Potholes 'll Be A Thing Of The Past In Oyo State -Gov Makinde Assures Citizens

Governor Seyi Makinde (middle); his Chief of Staff, Hon Segun Ogunwuyi (left) and General Manager, Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), Engr Johnson Adekola during the governor's working visit and facilities inspection to OYSROMA Head Office, Eleyele, Ibadan
Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has assured the citizens of Oyo State that they will witness the disappearance of potholes on their roads as he issued a marching order to the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) to fix all potholes on roads in the state.
Governor Makinde stated these on Tuesday shortly after meeting with the management of OYSROMA and inspecting the agency’s facilities at its head office, located in Eleyele, Ibadan.
He said he had received assurance from OYSROMA that the state could achieve zero pothole, adding that the government would do everything necessary to make it happen.
“We have to keep fixing the potholes. The people of Oyo State should expect to see most of the potholes disappear. The OYSROMA has promised me that Zero Pothole is possible in Oyo State.
“I have asked them for their proposal, and I have also asked them to give me who I should hold accountable. They have given me the individual I should hold accountable, and I am going to do that,” the governor said.
According to Governor Makinde, who was at the OYSROMA Office in the company of the Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi and some other political appointees, the challenges of potholes had increased with the increased rainfall.
He noted, however, that his administration’s Zero Pothole policy is still on course and that residents of the state would see a drastic change, as according to him, the government will give OYSROMA everything it needs to achieve that.
He said: “You know, with the rain; we are having a lot of our roads developing potholes and also failing. OYSROMA is the government agency saddled with the responsibility of having the roads fixed and I have been wondering what they were doing. So, I came to have an understanding of the challenges and also to encourage them to do what they are supposed to do.
“Now, we have some of our roads that will be completely rebuilt and there are also others that we will only have to intervene. For those ones that need only intervention, it will be done by OYSROMA. So, we have to give them everything they need to carry out that function.”
The governor equally maintained that he discovered that funding was one of the issues and that the issue would be sorted to enable the agency to deliver.
This was as he promised to ensure that the road maintenance agency works hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Environment to address the challenge of residents dumping refuse indiscriminately under hydraulic structures fixed by OYSROMA.
“In my interaction with OYSROMA, they mentioned a few things. One of them is that they might go somewhere to rehabilitate a hydraulic structure but before it rains, people go out there and dump refuse in that place.
"So, I said we will have them collaborate with the Ministry of Environment to ensure that once hydraulic structures are rehabilitated, people don't go there dumping refuse indiscriminately.
“There was also the issue of funding. We approved some money for OYSROMA before now and we thought they spent it anyhow. I only just found out that just a portion of the money was released to them.
"So, we will go back to the Accountant-General to ask why the fund was not released and if they are also having challenges, we would know how to address it,” the governor added.
