Close friend and personal lawyer to the late Rashidi Yekini, Jubril Olanrewaju Mohamed, has commended the Federal Government for deeming it fit to recognising and honouring the late football legend with posthumous award national title of the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) on Yekini.
Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday evening, conferred the national honour on Yekini ten years after the demise of the 'goal-king'.
Speaking on the honour, Mohammed Olanrewaju, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Rashidi Yekini Foundation said the gesture of the Federal Government is a welcome development because nothing is to much to do to imortalised Rashidi Yekini considering his history in Nigeria football in his life time.
"I want to say here that the entire family and friends of Rashidi Yekini is happy about the post conferment of the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) on Yekini. I'm also happy about it because this is one of the many things we have been pushing and clamouring for all this while.
"All our our noise and activities in memory of Late Rashidi Yekini in just to draw the attention of the Federal Government to the fact that Rashidi Yekini was a patriot, a nationalist and somebody who almost to the detriment of his convenience and happiness, sacrifice so much for Nigeria and brought so much joy to this country.
"So, if he could not be recorgnised when he was alive, we have been clamouring for them to recorgnised him posthumously and we are happy that this present administration hearken to our voice and found it worthy to honour him with the conferment of the MFR award, we are very grateful," Barrister Mohammed said.

Speaking further, Barrister Mohammed said the award came at the right time because the foundation's plans are in top gear to celebrate the anniversary of the demise of the 'goal-king' but for Rashidi Yekini deserved more from Nigeria government.
"We are still asking for more because we will appreciate if the Federal government can also go ahead to name a national monoment or even if it is a street in Abuja after Rashidi Yekini, we will be more happy about it because he deserved more," Barrister Mohammed added.
Yekini scored 37 goals as a Nigerian international footballer, and represented the nation in seven major tournaments, including two World Cup Championships, where he scored the country’s first-ever goal in the competition.
